Costa Rica Concludes ECOSOC Vice-Presidency with Bureau Handover

Costa Rica has officially concluded its Vice-Presidency role in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) following today’s Bureau handover ceremony.

Ambassador Maritza Chan, who represented Costa Rica in the 2024–2025 Bureau, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing team for their collective leadership and commitment. Under her stewardship, Costa Rica led the Humanitarian Affairs Segment and played a pivotal role in advancing inclusive multilateralism.

“It has been an honor to serve alongside committed partners in the 2024–2025 Bureau. Together, we championed people-centered approaches to global development and humanitarian coordination,” Ambassador Chan stated.

Welcoming the 2025–2026 ECOSOC Bureau

Costa Rica extended heartfelt congratulations to the incoming ECOSOC Bureau members:

  • 🇩🇴 Dominican Republic (GRULAC successor)

As Costa Rica steps down from its Vice-Presidency, it passes the torch to the Dominican Republic as the new GRULAC representative within the Bureau.

This transition marks another chapter in Costa Rica’s legacy of diplomacy and leadership in multilateral platforms. Ambassador Chan reaffirmed the country’s ongoing commitment to global development, climate action, and human dignity through the UN system.
